As our WoW accounts are already BCable, I can not test the procedure, but apparently you should be able to upgrade your WoW account, through the account management: http://www.wow-europe.com/account
Dear Blizzard, can I expect this to be your new path for distribution ofthe WoW code and for other games as well?
PS: can we assume that Blizzard have dedicated servers for the BC download, so it doesn’t disturb the next patchdownload

Like many other WoW players, I have upgraded my WoW account and installation with the Burning Crusade expansion. The BC expansion I’ve been playing for some months now, through the Blizzard beta-program, and the upgrade is a very needed change for most regular WoW players.
Before the BC upgrade, it pleased me a lot, how Blizzard had decided to code the sw architecture behind WoW, some examples like:
- almost all major parts of your WoW account and WoW charcater, is controlled by the account information/data stored on Blizzard servers, which makes it very easy to play your own character(s) on other WoW installations. If a friend of yours have WoW installed, you can just use his computer and play your own character(s) – very nice.
- when I was do install WoW on another computer, I just did a complete copy of the WoW folder and pasted in onto another computer, and vupti, everything is running great. No DLL-hell here it seems!
A major drawback is that you have to buy a new set of WoW CD’s to be able to create a new WoW account – it still surprises me, why Blizzard haven’t made it possible to just download the WoW code/application from their servers, and then just create a WoW account … I mean, why do I have to stack 4-5 sets of WoW CD’s on my shelves, when it’s the account that really matters AND the one you are actually paying for ??
Before BC arrived I was convinced that Blizzard would make the BC code a mandatory patch for every WoW installation and that Blizzard had and would have, send that patch out to all players during the last several months. This would make complete sense, according to the approach written above:
- I would still be able to play my character at a friends computer,
- and I would still be able to play WoW at different computer café’s
- it doesn’t matter if my friend was BC upgraded, it’s the WoW account info/metadata that matters!
… but somewhere lost in “translation”, Blizzard chosed to do this complete different:
- the BC upgraed has to be installed on every computer where you will play a WoW character/account that is upgraded to BC!
Can someone please enlighten me, why Blizzard has chosen this approach? I really don’t get it
